About
Who am I? If you have stumbled on this website then you were either looking for me or, more than likely, you are lost. I have not taken the world by storm, I am not an expert, I am not that photogenic, and I can’t sing. I think a lot but I doubt that makes me worthy of the price of admission. But I am someone, which brings us back to the question at hand. The answer: I am Corey Norman.
While I am admittedly young in years and have less than a large body of experience, these generally perceived weaknesses are, in my opinion, my greatest strengths. They imbue me with a fresh perspective on situations and allow me to have an innovative approach to problem solving. When I take on a project I bring enthusiasm, innovation, and pragmatic idealism to the table and a track record of excellent teamwork and communication skills. If I was to pick an area I have better than normal knowledge of it would be Generation Y, youth culture and engagement – but anyone who says they are an expert in this is either lying or they are lying. Youth culture is a constantly changing landscape and while I do a pretty good job, ok great job, of keeping up, it isn’t something that stays still long enough to call oneself an expert in it.
I get a kick out of starting from scratch. Cookie recipes mainly but sometimes even new initiatives. I am an entrepreneur at heart but an intrapreneur by practice. I would like to start my own business one day but I haven’t quite found a homerun idea, plus I can’t get over having a steady paycheque. Besides, I love working from within an organization to create and grow something. Maybe I am a glutton for punishment but I like to think of myself as determined.
I loved school – so much so that I stayed in it for 6 years. I got my undergraduate degree in Communication Studies, Global Studies and Business Administration and then my post-graduate diploma in International Project Management. One day I will go back, if for nothing else than to relive the good life. You know, when your bed was on milk crates, Kraft Dinner was a gourmet meal, and a pocket full of change meant you had a busy night. Oh the good old days.
I currently call Plan Canada my place of employment where I am the Youth Engagement and Development Education Specialist. It’s a fancy title but basically I do all things youth. I love the international development sector because if there is one place that requires innovation and a fresh set of eyes then it is it. Plus I like to travel.
Anyways, that is me. Sort of. I have done some stuff and if you aren’t actually lost then have a look around my website. If you are lost and need directions send me an email at corey at coreynorman dot com and I will do my best to point you in the right direction.
